The Levin Club was established in 1911 – sadly the Club has now announced it is closing saying it’s been a difficult time for hospitality and in particular ‘Clubs’ across New Zealand and they are very sad that the members have reached this decision.

Ross Campbell, Club President for the last five years, says the Levin Club has been running for 114 years and it was not a light decision to make.
Mr Campbell says the last day will be Friday 16th May – and they will party the night away. He says they will kick the evening off with an auction of most of the items inside – your chance to get a piece of Levin history and carry on with live entertainment.
“We will make the most of it with the Auction starting at 7.15pm and there will be a live band,” says Mr Campbell.
The Club has been at its current site since 31st October 1953.
The Club evolved over the last 105 years from being a Men’s only Club, where women were only allowed into the Club by special permission and only on special days.
Changes saw the Club cater for all ages and with both male and female members and staff.
Mr Campbell says there were several factors that led to the decision to close the club.
“The has been a drop in member numbers and the club model doesn’t have the same appeal for younger people. There is also the lingering impact of Covid. In the end it was determined the Club was no longer viable.”
Mr Campbell says the members will be able to transfer memberships to the Levin RSA or the Levin Cosmopolitan Club.
“We had visits to both Clubs recently and they offer a good alternative for members.”
Mr Campbell says nearly all of the current staff have found new jobs. He says the Club will be selling the building at 262 Oxford St, Levin and the proceeds will be going into a charitable trust for the Levin Community.
