As sure as the leaves fall in Autumn, our friends at Green by Nature have been hard at work keeping the district beautiful and thriving. Here’s some of what they got up to in May:
Watch this space: Members of Council’s Parks Team and Green by Nature attended Green Pavlova – a parks, open spaces, and play conference. With a focus on playgrounds, stakeholder engagement, greening the urban environment, and sustainability, they picked up lots of great ideas for Horowhenua.
The grass is greener: Warmer Autumn weather in May allowed the sports turf team to produce some outstanding surfaces on our local sports fields.
BBQs and Bins: Supported 10+ community events with the BBQ trailer and wheelie bins.
Every drop counts: 2050 litres of water utilised from rain collection.
Unbe-leaf-able: The mowing team has been helping out with leaf collection when able, improving safety and the overall look of the district.
Not the doughnuts we want: Our scenic reserves at Gladstone, Kimberley, and Kirkcaldies are being targeted by drivers who are breaking through gates and bollards to access these reserves and do skids. The team is working on prevention initiatives.
Green thumbs (up): The horticulture team is busy trimming, mulching, and weeding to keep our gardens and roadsides looking fresh and tidy. They’re also preparing for the changeover of garden bed plants from summer to winter varieties.
A bright future: Held regular Garden Club sessions at Taitoko School, which was recently awarded Enviro School status.
